PROTECTION | CONFIDENCE | EMPOWERMENT
We live in a time and culture where personal security has become a personal responsibility. Understandably, many women are reluctant to consider the possibility of assault or need help and direction in managing this responsibility effectively.
Smartsafe is the answer to this gap in preparing women for full and active lives. It is a self-defense course specifically designed to meet the needs of women (ages 14 and up) in its approaches to training and learning.
It is under the umbrella of Commando Krav Maga which was developed bu Moni Aizik, a 7-time Israeli Judo champion both as a student and adult. He served in an elite unit of the Israeli military and fought in the Yom Kippur War in 1973. After the war he began to experiment with the traditional techniques of Krav Maga (contact fighting) which led to the creation of Commando Krav Maga. He developed CKM in 1973 and in 2004 CKM was introduced to civilians. Smartsafe (or Women's Commando Krav Maga) is an outgrowth of that training. It is a course designed sensitively for the needs of women who may be fearful and have little confidence in their ability to prevent or fend off an attack.
Typically women are not fighters and have no desire to be fighters and for that very reason are at risk. Smartsafe was developed for just such women. It prepares women NOT to engage in fighting ...but to PROTECT themselves by becoming "assault proof". Students finish the course CONFIDENT in recognizing and avoiding potentially harmful situations. Finally they are EMPOWERED to apply some easily learned techniques to escape in the event an actual assualt occurs. Skill and athletic prowess are not prerequisites to participation in the course.
