My husband and I have five teenage daughters. We have been very concerned about their physical safety as they begin to be out on their own. One of our requirements for them once they get their driver's license is to have some type of self-defense instruction, so we were very interested when we talked to Rita about Smartsafe.
The WCKM Smartsafe course turned out to be everything we were looking for and more. Our three oldest daughters, ages 18, 17, and 15, not only learned some excellent self-defense techniques, but gained more confidence in being able to protect themselves and learned awareness of their surroundings, all of which help to reduce the risk of being a victim. We also very much appreciated the realistic simulations our girls had in the course.
We couldn't have asked for better instructors, either. Rita, and her assistant Brian, were excellent. They are patient, encouraging, and kind with each student. Their easy and informal approach made a potentially fearful and anxious subject, self-defense, fun and exciting to learn about. Our girls felt very comfortable and safe during the course.
We would highly recommend and even strongly urge families with teenage girls to take this course. It is in fact an invaluable tool for women of all ages to have to help to protect themselves in our society today.

This class taught us to be a lot more aware of our surroundings, and helped us become more confident about our safety. The teachers were very clear in their instructions, and very patient in helping us to understand what we were supposed to be doing and why. The class not only taught us how to get out of dangerous situations, but also how to prevent being in them in the first place. We would recommend this class to anyone who is fearful for their safety and even for those who may not be.

I was so scared to take a class for fear of being thrown on the floor! I thought it would be like a Karate class but it was NOT! It's a shame women are too scared or say "I don't need that".
